Marine Technical Limits Awarded Two FPSO Repair Scopes

We are pleased to announce that Marine Technical Limits has been awarded two offshore repair scopes this week on operational FPSO vessels in the UKCS, highlighting our specialised expertise in executing complex marine engineering solutions while vessels remain in service.

We will undertake critical repair work on two separate Floating Production Storage and Offloading vessels, demonstrating our proven capability to deliver challenging repairs on operational assets without compromising production schedules.

Hull Collision Damage Repairs

The first scope involves repairing collision damage to the side shell of an operational FPSO above the waterline, with all work to be completed while the vessel maintains its operational status.

Having previously developed a repair methodology which has been approved by Class, the execution management of the repair involves careful sequencing of deck operations and confined space entry hot work in 3 spaces. The project requires complex engineering solutions, including the fabrication of large quantities of structural inserts that must match the new shape of the hull while maintaining the flexibility to be adapted on-site to ensure correct fit up in accordance with repair standards. Our teams will work around the clock, operating both day and night shifts to complete this demanding repair scope efficiently.

Complex Structural Work

The second repair scope centers on structural modifications in way of a vessel’s mooring buoy, below sea level.

This technically challenging work can only be executed during suitable weather conditions due to the exposed nature of the work area. The scope involves complex logistics for moving heavy structural inserts and equipment to the work site, requiring detailed rigging plans for material handling. Adding to the technical complexity, we will be working in a small, confined space. As a result, we plan to introduce a previously closed secondary hatch to allow safe access and routing or ventilation and equipment, before welding it permanently shut again upon completion of the modifications.

Proven Expertise and Capabilities

These repair awards reflect our established reputation for executing complex and challenging repairs aboard operational FPSO vessels. With years of experience in the North Sea, we have developed comprehensive engineering solutions and assembled the right combination of skilled personnel and specialized equipment to tackle demanding offshore repair projects.

Our ability to execute these types of complex repairs safely and efficiently while vessels remain operational is what sets us apart. We understand the critical nature of maintaining production uptime, and our engineering processes and extensive planning ensure that the work we do is delivered to the highest standard and in the safest possible way.

Both repair scopes are scheduled to commence shortly, with Marine Technical Limits deploying our specialist teams and equipment to deliver these technically demanding projects with our characteristic focus on safety, efficiency, and operational excellence.
