MTL Achieves DNV Approval for Remote Inspection and Thickness Measurement Services

Marine Technical Limits (MTL) is proud to announce that we have been formally approved by DNV as a certified Service Supplier for Remote Inspection Techniques (DNV‑CP‑0632) and Ultrasonic Thickness Measurements (DNV‑CP‑0620). These approvals recognise the technical capability of our people, the robustness of our management system, and the strength of our operational procedures — and importantly, they reinforce MTL’s position at the forefront of structural integrity management for FPSOs and offshore floating assets.

These certifications continue our long‑standing commitment to aligning our inspection services with the highest standards of safety, quality and regulatory compliance. They also reflect years of learning, refinement and innovation built into MTL’s digital integrity management ecosystem: PYXIS.

Raising the Standard for Offshore Structural Integrity

As offshore assets continue to age and global operators move towards smarter, risk‑based integrity management strategies, the industry’s expectations of remote inspection capability have evolved. DNV’s approval confirms that MTL meets and exceeds these expectations.

Under these approvals, MTL is formally recognised to provide:

Remote Inspection Techniques (RIT)

Delivering Class‑compliant close‑up structural surveys using ROVs, UAVs and other remote tools, reducing the need for intrusive access and minimising personnel exposure.

This includes the controlled capture of high‑definition imagery, structural condition assessment, live data recording, and the ability to demonstrate compliance with DNV‑CP‑0632 through rigorous procedures, competency controls and quality assurance.

Ultrasonic Thickness Measurement (UTM)

Providing Class‑approved wall thickness measurement services in accordance with DNV‑CP‑0620, ensuring data accuracy, traceability, and the consistent application of NDT best practice.

Together, these approvals enable MTL to deliver complete structural condition evaluations — from visual data capture to thickness measurement and anomaly assessment — across all major hull structures.

Powered by PYXIS: A Fully Digital, Risk‑Based Integrity Workflow

While these approvals stand firmly on their own, they are made significantly more powerful through integration with PYXIS, MTL’s advanced digital platform for structural integrity management.

PYXIS transforms the way inspection scopes are defined, executed and reviewed:

1. Risk‑Based Inspection Planning

PYXIS supports the development of Class‑aligned digital workplans based on risk profiles, historical data and engineering insight ensuring inspection scopes are optimised, not generic.

2. Digital Workpacks with Embedded Rules & Logic

All inspection tasks, including UT locations, close‑up surveys and anomaly re‑inspections, are defined within PYXIS Engineer, ensuring clarity and consistency before an inspection even begins.

3. Seamless Integration with UAVs, ROVs and Manual Teams

Video feeds, still imagery and UT measurements are captured directly into PYXIS Offshore using ATEX‑rated devices.

This direct capture eliminates transcription errors, improves data integrity and significantly reduces post‑inspection administrative burden.

4. Accurate, High‑Quality Data at Source

Each reading, image, finding and comment is validated at the point of capture. PYXIS ensures that data is complete, correctly classified and tied to the exact structural location on digital sketches.

5. Automated Reporting & Cloud‑Based Review

Inspection results synchronise to the cloud for immediate review by MTL’s naval architects and client stakeholders.

This enables rapid Class reporting, transparent audit trails, and efficient collaboration between offshore and onshore teams.

6. Demonstrated Quantifiable Efficiency Gains

By combining remote inspection techniques and PYXIS’s digital workflow, operators typically realise:

  • 20–30% productivity increase for manned inspections
  • 50–60% reduction in inspection duration when leveraging UAV/ROV integration
  • 90–95% reduction in post‑inspection reporting time
  • Improved safety through reduced confined space entry and working at height

These improvements translate directly into cost savings, schedule predictability and reduced risk.

A Milestone That Reflects MTL’s Vision

This achievement reinforces MTL’s commitment to delivering world‑leading structural integrity management through a combination of:

  • Decades of engineering experience
  • Rigorous processes and procedures
  • State‑of‑the‑art digital tools
  • Deep knowledge of FPSO structural behaviour and degradation mechanisms
  • A relentless focus on quality and safety

With the continued evolution of PYXIS and the expansion of our remote inspection capabilities, MTL is helping the industry move confidently toward a future where integrity management is data‑driven, risk‑based and digitally enabled end‑to‑end.

A Thank‑You to the Team

We extend our sincere thanks to the MTL specialists, developers, surveyors and naval architects whose expertise and commitment made these approvals possible. Their work defines the high standards that underpin everything we do.
