Investing in Excellence: MTL Naval Architects Deepen Expertise in Structural Design

At MTL, we believe that maintaining the highest standards of engineering requires a commitment to continuous learning. Recently, our Naval Architect team had the privilege of diving deep into the theoretical foundations of ship structural design.

We were delighted to host a three-day in-house training course on Advanced Structural Design of Ships, delivered by the renowned Dr. Piero Caridis. A retired Professor of Ship Structures with over three decades of academic and industry experience, Dr. Caridis brought a wealth of knowledge to our boardroom.

Bridging Theory and Application

In the fast-paced world of marine engineering, it is easy to rely solely on software and established codes. However, true expertise comes from understanding the “why” behind the “how.”

The course provided a rigorous refresher and deep dive into complex topics, including:

  • Thin-walled structural theory: Understanding the behaviour of plate structures under load.
  • Global ship strength: Analysing longitudinal strength and the stresses acting on the hull girder.

For our team, this wasn’t just an academic exercise. This training was an invaluable opportunity to reinforce the theoretical foundations that underpin our approach to Hull Integrity Management. By mastering these advanced concepts, our architects are better equipped to solve complex structural problems and ensure the longevity and safety of the assets we manage.

A Commitment to Quality

We would like to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. Caridis for his time, his deep knowledge, and his infectious passion for the subject.

Events like this highlight MTL’s dedication to professional development. By investing in our team’s knowledge, we ensure that we continue to deliver the most accurate, safe, and efficient solutions to our clients.
