From the very beginning, they approached their time with curiosity and commitment. Over the course of the placement, they gained hands-on experience across a range of projects and had the chance to see how the skills they have been developing in their studies can be applied in a professional setting. Working alongside our teams, they were involved in live projects that carried genuine responsibility, giving them the opportunity to learn by doing while also adding value to the work we deliver.
At MTL, we see student placements as more than just short-term opportunities. They are an important way of developing future talent while also bringing new perspectives into our organisation. This year we were pleased to welcome four placement students: Euan, Hardie, Anna, and Jamie, who each made a real contribution to our team over the summer.
One of the most rewarding parts of the placement has been seeing the progression of each of the students. In a short space of time, they built confidence in their abilities, learned to collaborate effectively, and developed a deeper understanding of our industry. Their fresh perspectives and willingness to ask questions often sparked useful conversations within the wider team, something we always appreciate.
Matt shares: “I’m always energised when our summer placement students join us at MTL. Watching them grow in confidence, develop their skills, and be supported by our teams is not only rewarding but a reminder of how important it is to invest in the next generation of talent.”
To capture some of their experiences, we have put together a short video where Euan, Hardie, Anna, and Jamie share their reflections on their time with us. It highlights not only what they learned, but also how they contributed to the culture and day-to-day life at MTL.
As they return to their studies, we would like to thank them for the hard work, energy, and professionalism they brought to their placements. We are proud of what they achieved in such a short period of time, and we look forward to seeing where their careers take them next.
